FAQ

Care

How should I care for my Get Set Gear product?

If you take care of your gear, it will take care of you.

There are a lot of good products out there for leather care. I recommend products based on natural ingredients such as Chamberlain's Leather Milk and Smith's Leather balm. Follow the respective products' directions on how to condition your gear.

Belt Loop Armor

Will I look funny wearing the Belt Loop Armor?

In most cases, no one will even notice it. Even if they do, it’s designed to be inconspicuous so I wouldn’t worry.  In fact, I think it may even look cool on a nice pair of jeans.

Will wearing the Belt Loop Armor be uncomfortable?

No. Seriously, you won’t even notice it.

Holsters

What size holster should I get for my knife?

TL; DR – Check out the chart below to see which size holster will accommodate your knife. It should be a tight fit at first.

The holsters work best with knives/tools with parallel edges. If the knife tapers heavily near the ends, it may not be a good fit for our holsters. When you first insert your knife, it should have a tight fit and be fairly difficult to pull out. Don’t worry! It’ll get easier to put in and take out as the leather breaks in. If the knife feels loose in the holster on your first try, you will need a smaller size holster or it might be that the knife is incompatible with our holsters.

Use the following chart to determine what size holster you’ll need. Keep in mind that leather stretches according to what you put inside it.

Will my knife fall out of the holster?

Please keep in mind that as long as the knife leaves the house, there is a small risk of losing your knife, whether it's in your pocket or on a holster.

To minimize the risk of your knife falling out of the holster, please..

1) ..make sure the knife fits very tightly on its initial use.  It should be tight enough, where it is actually difficult to insert and pull out the knife.

2) ..do NOT use different knives on a single holster. The leather takes on the shape of whatever knife is inside the holster. This shape is optimal for only that specific knife and is unsuitable for any other knife.

3) ..do NOT use the pocket clip. Yes, it's counter intuitive, but the clip has a chance of snagging onto something, like a fence or the mesh of a chair, and falling out unbeknownst to you.

With that said, I have field-tested my holsters with these methods for more than two years and my knives have never fallen out on me. For extra security, clip your knife/tool onto the holster or use a lanyard that could attach to the Belt Loop Armor.

Please keep these things in mind as you purchase, as Get Set Gear cannot be responsible for lost tools.

Will you make a gun holster with built in Belt Loop Armor?

I didn't grow up in a gun culture so the first time I shot a gun was at age 30 in Vegas during a bachelor party. If there's one thing I learned from that experience, it was to respect the gun.

If there's one thing I learned from that experience, it was to respect the gun.

As such, I believe a gun holster should function exclusively as a holster and not have secondary functions like clipping keys. That is why I will not be offering gun holsters with built-in Belt Loop Armor.

Will I look funny wearing a Get Set Gear Holster?

Do you think Batman would be concerned about how he looks as he puts on his utility belt? No. No he wouldn’t. Be like Batman.

All joking aside, I knew this was going to be a legitimate concern because I was a bit self-conscious myself when I started wearing a Get Set Gear Holster. That’s why I designed the holster to look modern and minimalistic with clean, modern lines. Frankly, I think they look awesome and unlike any other holster out there.

Will wearing a Get Set Gear Holster be uncomfortable?

TL;DR – It depends on too many factors to say for sure. With that said, I wear the Medium Classic Holster everyday and it is very comfortable. For most days, I forget I even have it on.

The comfort level depends on so many factors – the thickness and size of your knife/tool, the size of the holster relative to your physique, how much love you have in your love handles, how high you wear your pants, where you place your holster on the belt, etc.

As for myself, I’m a 5’8”, 165 pound guy that uses the Medium Classic Holster with a Victorinox Deluxe Tinker. I wear low-rise slim pants and wear my holster so that the Belt Loop Armor sits on the exact middle of my side.

I’m not trying to make a sale here (wait, am I?) but honestly – it’s so comfortable that I almost never notice it.

On the other hand, the large Classic Holster with the Leatherman© Wave is thick and hefty enough for me to be aware of it on my belt. It protrudes from the hips enough for my arms to occasionally brush by it, even if I’m not reaching for it.  It also causes some discomfort when I slouch in my seat. I think sitting up straighter or wearing higher rising pants would alleviate the discomfort.

With that said, if you’re a bigger guy, you might not notice the large Classic holster on your hip at all. Or if you’re a smaller guy, perhaps even the Small Classic Holster may cause some discomfort. Or maybe you wear your pants higher than I do – which if is the case, it’s very likely you'll even notice the holster at all, whatever the size. It’s all relative!
